Tutorial 2: Coloring Cristina Yang

So, I had a few people ask about some coloring in this post, and they were very sweet to ask, so I bring you now, a tutorial for that coloring. Ready? Here we go.

01. Take you base and crop it. Mine is from The Surgical Gallery Duplicate that base twice.

02. Set the middle layer to screen and the opacity to 90%.

03. Set the top layer to Soft Light, leave it at 100%.

04. Take this color (040639)

Set it to exclusion at 90%.

05. Then take this color (C2D0DD)

Set it to Color Burn at 80%.

06. Duplicate that Soft Light layer, lower the opacity to 40%.

07. Take this color (DDCBA3)

Set it to Multiply at 30%.

08. Flatten everything, go Edit> Stroke to add a white 5px. boarder. That's always optional.

And that, my friends, is all it takes. Easy, right? Change the opacity of anything and what now to fit your liking. Now go forth and make icons. Hope this helped.

First Tutortial Ever!

Steps for coloring like this:

Someone asked about the coloring method I used in this icon,
so here's a tutorial for you. It's my first, so be nice. I'm using Photoshop 7.0

Someone asked about the coloring method I used in this icon, so here's a tutorial for you. It's my first, so be nice. I'm using Photoshop 7.0

01. Take your cap from csi-caps, Grissom from CSI in Grave Danger, or whatever tickles your fancy, and crop it. For simplicity's sake we're just gonna do a 100x100 icon.

02. Take your base and duplicate (ctrl+J) it twice. Set the very top to Softlight, and the middle to Screen. Flatten it, sharpen it, then use the blur tool to smooth out the skin, don't touch the hair or the eyes.
You'll have this: or something like it.

03. Now take that and duplicate it, set it to screen.

04. New layer! (ctrl+shift+N) Flood fill it with a dark blue color (040639) set it to Exclusion.
You'll have this: or something like it.

05. New layer, again! Flood fill it this time with a light bluish/grayish color (C2D0DD) set it to Color Burn.
You'll have this: or something..... yea, yea, you get it right?

06. Now duplicate your base layer again, drag it to the top layer and desaturate it. (ctrl+shift+U) Set that layer to softlight
You'll have this:

07. Guess what! New layer! Flood fill this one with a weird brownish color (B48F58) set it to multiply and the opacity to 30, and that's it, you're done.

From here you can mess around with size, textures, brushes yadda, yadda. Hope this help you.
